Contractor - Basil Wyatt Limited
Brief description of work carried out –
The house is built on the site of a former house backing onto the Thames at Moulsford. The radical design by architect John Outram is based on an Egyptian theme, with the outside in an assortment of coloured renders which form an illusion of large columns supporting a copper roof. George Cook and Sons were responsible for the internal plasterwork. Internally, the plaster to the walls is divided up using grooved beads to form pilasters and bands and is decorated in a multiplicity of colours to deepen the effect. The false pilasters are expressed further by the addition of fibrous plaster caps made to an Egyptian design. The ceiling of the dining room is a vaulted ceiling consisting of converging ellipses. The ceilings on the first floor are elliptical, following the curve of the roof and were formed using plasterboard on an M.F. Suspension system. The walls of the entrance hall/staircase and swimming pools are finished using a green coloured render.
